In 2015, OmniByte started with a question—it would shape everything: What if we could build a technology company and didn’t just develop software, but created lasting impact for real people? The idea came to life during a phone conversation between Ray Berry and Brian Gietzen. They had spent years in tech. They had seen companies grow fast and flame out. They had seen priorities shift away from the people who actually used the products. And they knew there was a better way.
OmniByte was not born from a boardroom or a pitch deck. It began with a belief in doing things differently. The earliest days were spent in the NDSU Research and Tech Park in Fargo, North Dakota. There were no fancy offices, just whiteboards, folding chairs, and the kind of ambition not requiring applause to keep going. Our first product, rTown, was created to help cities communicate more easily with their communities. It was a modest beginning, but one which taught us to build software by listening first.
As we grew, so did our understanding of the industries we served. We launched TechPro, a mobile solution for field service operations, and through hard work, we began to see the complexity and importance of data capture in the field. The experience pushed us toward our current flagship product, FormsPro.
FormsPro is more than a form tool. It is a digital operations platform connecting teams, syncing data, and driving efficiency from the job site to the office. Built with and for the people who rely on it every day, FormsPro helps utility providers, telecom companies, manufacturers, and service technicians do their best work, no matter where they are.
OmniByte has always prioritized long-term relationships over quick wins. We’ve never been the loudest company in the room, but we've always aimed to be the most trusted. Trust is built on choices we’ve made—growing intentionally, staying rooted in North Dakota, and putting people at the center of our process.
People like Sonja Berry, who was part of OmniByte before the name even existed. She helped set up our first office space and was instrumental in shaping our internal systems, even while balancing a full-time career. She even helped choose the name “OmniByte.” People like her remind us every detail matters, and the heart of our company has always been its people.
Over the last ten years, OmniByte has welcomed more than 40 interns through partnerships with NDSU and programs like ND Operation Intern. Many of these students stayed on to become full-time employees, helping us grow a passionate, talented team—connected to the mission. From three employees in 2015 to 25 currenlty, our team continues to grow not just in size, but in strength.
We have also been shaped by our community. From early support through the NDSBDC, SBA and the ND Department of Commerce to guidance from local mentors and partners, Fargo has been more than a headquarters. It has been home. North Dakota is where we learned what grit, resourcefulness, and resilience really mean. It is where we learned to listen before we build.
As we celebrate a decade of growth, we are not just looking back. We are already building what comes next. The future of field service is complex. The demands are high. But our mission is clear. We will keep building tools to make frontline work easier, data more accurate, and businesses more agile. We will keep showing up with curiosity, clarity, and care.
OmniByte has always been about more than software. It has been about solving the right problems, in the right way, with the right people. It's what we have done for ten years. And we are just getting started.
To everyone who has been part of the journey, thank you. Your belief in us made this milestone possible.
Here’s to the next ten.
